Private Well Water Quality Study in Eau Claire County

Dr. Sarah Vitale and Dr. Laura Suppes (UW-Eau Claire faculty) are doing a study in Eau Claire County to
evaluate water quality conditions in private wells. Participating homeowners will have their water quality
tested at no cost to you. To participate in this study, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Reside in Eau Claire County
  • Have a private groundwater well at your Eau Claire County residence
  • Not have had your water tested in the last two years (if your water was tested in 2020 or earlier, you qualify)

Samples will be analyzed at the Eau Claire County Public Health Laboratory and the Wisconsin State
Laboratory of Hygiene. If you give us permission to test your well, we will sample for nitrate, coliform,
pH, fluoride, arsenic, iron, and manganese. A subset of samples will be tested for lead, copper, and PFAS.
You will receive a copy of all test results. Samples will be collected by undergraduate student researchers
and will be minimally intrusive. Sample collection will take around 15 minutes. Most sampling will only
need to occur one time. If follow up samples are needed you will be notified.

If you would like to participate, please contact Dr. Vitale at 715-836-4300 or [email protected], and
provide the following information:

  • Your Name
  • Your Address
  • A Phone # or Email for us to reach you
  • Do you have a filter on your water supply? (We can still sample your outdoor spout if so!)

Thank you for your consideration!
